In January 2005, my then 12-year-old cat was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism, a common ailment in aging cats. The recommended treatment for this is to inject the cat with a radioactive iodine, which eliminates all the extra thyroid tissue but leaves the normal thyroid alone. ~95% cure rate on the first shot. But for a few weeks, as the radioactive material does its job, the cat is, well, radioactive. Read all about it here. I asked many questions before having this done, including "Will my cat develop superpowers?" I believe I am the only person to ever ask this. To deal with the stress of avoiding my extremely-clingy radioactive kitty for two whole weeks, I got some fluorescent paints and imagined what my cats would be like if they had superpowers. Ten months later, the cat is doing just great.
